Roof building permit

You need a permit if you are installing a new roof or repairing an existing roof. If you are building a new roof as part of a larger project, the permit would fall under the residential home permit.

• Standard color
• Light color

Requirements and attachments

When you apply online, you can upload documents with your application. Make sure to upload all of the required documents. If your application is not complete, this will extend the time it takes to issue your permit.

• Roof color:
  • If it meets Design Review Exemption #9, choose the Standard Color permit subtype
  • If it is light color or reflective, it will require design review
• Google Earth Photo or existing roof photos
• Contractor or Owner-Builder Declarations (required for all projects)
• Projects over $50k require Construction & Demolition Debris Recycling Statement (DRS)
• If the project is more involved than roof and sheathing replacement, structural framing details and calculations may be required.
