The City Council will continue discussion on the FY2024-2025 City budget at a special workshop on Monday, April 29.
City Council Budget Workshop
Monday, April 29, 6pm
City of Piedmont Emergency Operations Center, 403 Highland Avenue
At a previous workshop held on April 15, Finance Director Michael Szczech presented preliminary revenue projections for the coming year and reviewed costs necessary to maintain existing service levels. The Council then discussed several proposed initiatives intended to improve service delivery and help staff work more efficiently, including a Public Works workflow and asset management system, digitization of paper records, online business licensing, and an upgraded City website.
At Monday’s meeting, Szczech will present updated revenue projections based on new information from Alameda County. The discussion is expected to focus on high priority capital projects planned for the coming year. Council feedback will shape the next stages of budget preparation.
Community members are welcome to attend and speak in-person at the meeting.
FY2024-2025 Budget Discussion Schedule
This is the second in a series of public meetings where the budget will be discussed. The current schedule for future meetings is:
- Tuesday, May 14, 6pm: Budget Advisory and Financial Planning Committee
- Monday, June 3, 6pm: Budget Public Hearing – regular City Council meeting
- Monday, June 17, 6pm:Adoption of FY2024-2025 City budget – regular City Council meeting
The proposed budget is expected to be published for review and feedback in early May.
In previous years, public budget discussions began in May, following the release of the proposed budget. The earlier start to the process this year continues the City’s evolution towards longer-term planning, a shift that has been underway for several years at the recommendation of the City’s Budget Advisory and Financial Planning Committee. Leading up to this workshop, the City Council held study sessions devoted to governance and goal-setting in March and early April.
