Apply for an electrification rebate

Get cash back for replacing a gas appliance with an electric one. You'll need a City permit before you apply.

Need to know

  • Must be a Piedmont property owner
  • New construction is not eligible
  • Residential buildings only
  • Apply within 4 months of permit issue date
  • One rebate per category per address
  • Funds distributed first-come, first-served

Before you start

Review the rebate amounts and requirements for the appliance you plan to install. Each rebate has specific equipment standards — confirm your equipment qualifies before you begin.

Building permit required

Work with your contractor to submit a permit application to the City's Planning and Building Department. Your permit must be issued before you can apply for a rebate.

If your permit is for a remodel, the scope of work must explicitly list each appliance you're applying a rebate for — for example, "replacing gas water heater with heat pump water heater."

Removing your gas meter?

Steps

1. Submit your rebate application

Once the City has issued your permit, submit a Rebate Application Form and a Waiver and Indemnification Agreement within 4 months of the permit issue date.

Email materials to [email protected] or drop off printed copies at the Planning and Building Counter in City Hall.

2. Complete the work and pass inspection

Work with your contractor to finish the installation. Once the work is done, schedule a final inspection with the City's Planning and Building Department.

3. Submit your final documents

Once you've passed final inspection, notify us at [email protected] and submit the following:

Required for all rebates

  • W-9 form
  • Proof of payment (paid invoice)
  • Photos of installed equipment including a nameplate photo showing serial number, model number, and manufacture date

If your application is approved, allow 2 to 6 weeks for your rebate check to be issued.

Tax note: You'll get a Form 1099-MISC if your total rebate is more than $600. Talk to a tax professional about any potential tax implications.
