How to store and place your carts
Your waste is picked up weekly. On your collection day, make sure your carts are at the curb in front of your house. Bring the carts back in after your waste has been picked up.
Need to know
- Put them out after 6 p.m. on the day before your collection day.
- Remove your carts from the curb before 12 a.m. (midnight) on your collection day.
- Place your carts on the street within 3 feet of the curb (where cars park).
- Do not place carts on the sidewalk or in the driving lane of the street.
Backyard pickup
If you have backyard collection service, keep your carts in a location that’s:
- In the side or backyard
- Accessible
- Out of view from the street
Keep all 3 carts (blue, black, green) together. Republic Services will pick them up and put them back.
Storage
Store your carts in an enclosure or a place that is:
- Out of view from the street
- As far away from the street as possible
- As small as possible to enclose the carts
- As low in height as possible to cover the carts
For more details, read the Trash Enclosures chapter in Piedmont’s Design Standards (Chapter 3.10, page 46).
Keep lids closed to prevent rainwater and animals.
Concerns
If you have concerns about your neighbor’s trash carts, kindly talk to them about our local rules. You can remind them that their carts need to be:
- Brought in from the curb by midnight
- Stored in a place out of view from the street
If they have trouble bringing them in by the midnight deadline, see if someone in the neighborhood can help bring them in on time.
