Renew a business license and pay annual tax

If you operate a business in the City of Piedmont, you need to renew your business license every year. If you don’t have one yet, you can apply for a business license.

If your business is located outside of the City of Piedmont and you are not currently doing business in Piedmont, you can close your account.

If your business is a rental property, renew your license to pay your annual rental tax.

Need to know

  • Due dates:
    • For most businesses, your renewal is due the day before the anniversary of your issue date.
    • If your business is a rental property, your tax payment is due by March 1 each year
  • Cost of renewal is based on your gross receipts.
  • If you don’t pay on-time, you will be subject to a penalty, plus interest:
    • 1 to 30 days late, penalty is 25% of tax owed
    • 31 to 60 days late, penalty is 50% of tax owed
    • More than 60 days late, penalty is 100% of tax owed
    • Interest is 1.5% per month, or a fraction based on the date paid

Before you start

To renew, you’ll need:

  • Account number and pin (this is on your renewal notice)
  • If your business is physically located in Piedmont, provide proof of your annual gross receipts, such as a Schedule C

Rental properties

If you paid the annual tax last year, you will get a letter with an account number and pin.

If you have a new rental and haven’t paid tax before, apply for a business license online.

The amount of rent you are paid is called your gross receipts. Your tax is based on this.

Complete the online business license renewal application. Use the account number and pin that was sent to you to login.

2. Pay tax.

You can pay by credit card, ACH bank transfer, or by check.
