Preschool Lottery: Open Enrollment Dates

To provide equitable enrollment opportunities, PRD has designed a lottery system to select participants for each preschool program. If selected from the preschool lottery, a $500 deposit is due at the time of enrollment.

Piedmont Residency

Piedmont shares four zip-codes with the City of Oakland, residency is determined by the participant's family home address. Proof of residency may be required. Use of grandparents or other Piedmont residences is not permitted, and if used, may disqualify enrollment. If you have any questions regarding residency, please contact PRD.  

Preschool Registration Details

Registration is processed through PRD's Community Pass website, a requirement each school year, for entry into the preschool lottery and consideration for enrollment.

Preschool Registration is EASY!
  • Log onto Community Pass
  • Click Orange "Click Here to Register/Reserve" button
  • Select "Preschool 2025/2026"
  • Select your child(ren)  
  • Choose the programs to enter your child(ren) into the preschool lottery
  • Read program policies and follow prompts to complete registration

Registration Notes/Requirements:
  • Registration: Children are automatically placed on a "waitlist" when registering for the program lottery. Please only select programs that you are willing to attend. Families will NOT be charged at this time. 
  • Lottery Confirmation: Families will receive an email confirmation upon completing registration; however, this does not guarantee placement.
  • Payment: In addition to program registration, families are required to store payment information on their Community Pass account before the lottery deadline. Failure to do so may delay or disqualify enrollment.
  • Selection: If your child is selected from the lottery, your child will transferred from the waitlist to the roster. If they are selected for more than one program, families will be contacted, and have 48 hours to confirm their preference. Non-replies may result in PRD assigning a program, at their discretion, or removing the child from both lists. 
  • Deposit: A $500 deposit will be processed, using the family's stored payment information (see FAQs page for tuition details). The deposit will be used towards your child's first month's tuition payment. Failure to submit payment will result in an immediate withdrawal and possible disqualification from future enrollment.
  • Notifications: All families who participate in the Open Enrollment Lottery will be notified, via email, regarding your child's registration status, typically 5 business days following the lottery deadline.
  • Withdrawals: The $500 deposit is refundable (minus a $50 processing fee) up to 14 days from the enrollment confirmation date. Withdrawal requests must be made in writing to [email protected]. After 14 days, all payments are NON-REFUNDABLE.
  • Toilet-Training Requirement: Children enrolled in Hillside Playschool or Pre-K must be toilet-trained before the 1st day of attendance. Children enrolled in the Tiddlywinks program are not required to be toilet trained.
