Red Flag Warning for Piedmont: Tuesday, November 5 11am – Thursday, November 7 7am

Published November 4, 2024

The National Weather Service has issued a Red Flag Warning that includes Piedmont starting 11am on Tuesday, November 5 and ending at 7am on Thursday, November 7. The Piedmont Fire Department has received a “spot forecast” confirming heightened fire risk during this period due to strong offshore winds and dry conditions.

Fires that start during red flag conditions can spread quickly and unpredictably. Help prevent fires and keep roads clear for emergency responders during this period of heightened risk:

  • Use extreme caution when operating BBQs, power equipment, or other heat sources, such as idling cars.
  • Park off-street to keep streets clear for emergency vehicles.
  • Call 9-1-1 immediately if you see signs of fire.

The Fire Department has increased staffing and will be patrolling the city during the period of highest fire risk.

Take steps now to be ready to evacuate if needed:

  • Sign up for AC Alert emergency notifications. In an emergency, we will use AC Alert to send instructions about protective actions.
  • Keep your phone on and with you to receive alerts, even while sleeping. Do not use “do not disturb” mode during high risk weather.
  • Pack or refresh your go-bag and place it by your front door.
  • Review evacuation routes. Identify two paths out of your neighborhood by car and two by foot.
  • Back your car into your garage or driveway, so you are able to leave quickly.
