Additional safety measures at Community Pool construction site begin May 8

Published May 1, 2023

The City of Piedmont is implementing additional safety measures around the community pool construction site due to increased truck traffic in the coming weeks. Starting Monday, May 8th:

  • the construction fence on Magnolia Avenue will be extended farther into the street, creating a separate travel lane for trucks inside the fence
  • one lane will remain open to cars for through-travel
  • the school pick-up and drop-off area will remain in place

This additional buffer will enhance safety by fully separating trucks from pedestrian activity on Magnolia Avenue.

The increased truck traffic is due to excavation and soil removal activity at the pool construction site, and is expected to last eight weeks. Trucks will enter the construction site at Hillside and Magnolia, be loaded inside the site, then exit directly onto Bonita Avenue.

To minimize traffic disruption, truck activity will take place outside of school drop-off and pick-up periods (8-9am, 2-3:30pm). In addition to enhancing safety for pedestrians near the site, the separate truck lane will help reduce other potential impacts to the neighborhood, including dust and backed-up trucks. No additional parking will be removed to accommodate these changes.

The City remains grateful to the community for their generous and ongoing support for the new pool. We appreciate your patience during construction and will continue to work diligently throughout the project to minimize impacts and necessary disruptions in the Civic Center as much as possible.
