Linda Off-Leash Dog Area Temporarily Closed

Published March 1, 2025 | Updated April 10, 2025

UPDATE: April 10, 2025:

On April 7, 2025, the City Council voted to permanently close the Linda off-leash dog area. This action was necessary to avoid steep fines from regional authorities.

The regional Water Quality Control Board, after receiving a citizen complaint regarding the Linda off-leash dog area, required a plan of action from the City by April 9. If the City were deemed out of compliance with clean water regulations, Piedmont could be subject to fines as high as $66,000 per day.

The Linda off-leash dog area is temporarily closed due to hazardous conditions.

Rains throughout the winter have caused slippery conditions, soil erosion, and unstable walking surfaces. With more rain forecast in the upcoming week, the area cannot safely remain open.

Off-leash dog areas remain open at:

  • Blair Park: Moraga Avenue between Coaches Field and Maxwelton Road
  • Dracena Park: entrances at the end of Artuna Avenue and 130 Dracena Avenue
  • Piedmont Park: entrances at 711 Highland Avenue and 305 Wildwood Avenue

Public Works staff is regularly monitoring site conditions to determine when the Linda off-leash dog area may safely re-open.

It is likely that this space will need to temporarily close after most, if not all, future rain events.
