Community Pool Project Update

Published February 4, 2025

Construction on Piedmont's new community pool is over 80% complete - but critical work remains ahead.

In a new video, we're bringing you an update from the project team behind the design and construction of the new pool. You'll learn:

  • where the project stands now
  • what's left to do
  • what are some of the challenges impacting the timeline

You'll also get a peek behind the construction fencing, see previews of the incredible facility we have to look forward to, and hear from Recreation Department staff about the work they're doing now to prepare for opening.

Construction update: adverse weather continues to impact project timeline

The pool project timeline is heavily dependent on weather. The critical path for completing construction requires an extended stretch of dry weather in order to dig out and pour the second, smaller pool.

When heavy rains - such as those experienced in early January and this week - saturate the soil, construction crews are unable to do the necessary excavation work and must wait for the site to dry out.

Even as the essential exterior work is delayed, crews continue working inside the building. However, it is the ability to complete the second pool and begin the critical commissioning process - when systems are tested to ensure they are working together and as designed - that dictate when the pool will be ready for use. An expected opening date will be announced after the commissioning process is underway.

Save the date: Pool Advisory Committee to discuss pool pass model on February 13

Recreation staff will bring a draft proposed pool pass model to the Pool Advisory Committee on Thursday, February 13. The meeting will be held at 6pm at City Hall.

Community input is essential as we develop the pass model and pricing. We will send an update to this list with details of the proposal and ways to provide feedback once the agenda packet for the February 13th meeting is released.
