 Services of the Piedmont Police Department include: 

 

Support Services consists of professional employees whose purpose is to provide internal support to the organization and, more importantly, external support to members of the community.

Public Safety Dispatch

DispatchA dispatcher is frequently the first point of contact that a member of the public has when requesting assistance from City of Piedmont first responders. Information gathered by the dispatcher is critical to a positive outcome. Dispatchers are trained to handle a variety of call types and are responsible for collecting as much information as possible from the caller in a calm manner, assisting responding units, and managing the operation of telephone, radio, and computer while receiving and delivering critical response information.

When contacting the Piedmont Dispatch Center, either in-person, via 9-1-1 telephone lines, or through business telephone lines, please be prepared to provide as much information about the assistance requested as possible.

Expect to be asked your location, the location of the incident, the nature of the incident, a description of involved vehicles, buildings, or people, and the direction of travel of any fleeing suspects. Taking a few moments to provide this critical information to the Dispatcher at the onset of a call will allow for a more efficient and effective response by emergency service providers.

For urgent or non-emergency assistance, to report a suspicious person or occurrence, or to report a crime not-in-progress, please phone (510) 420-3000.

Records Division

The Records Division is responsible for maintaining department records, data entry, processing requests for reports, preparing statistics included in the monthly Department of Justice Crime Report, and handling warrants, subpoenas, and restraining orders.

The Piedmont Police Department provides access to a variety of public records. Requests may be made in person during business hours or in writing. To further assist members of the public in making a request, a specific Request for Records form may be completed by either the person requesting or police personnel.

Once a request has been made, certain records may be released immediately. Other requests may take up to 10 days to determine if they are releasable.

Property and Evidence

Property and EvidenceThe Property & Evidence Unit is responsible for logging and storing thousands of pieces of property each year. Property may be classified as evidence, found, or kept for safekeeping. We utilize computer tracking system that allows for easy access and identification of all property taken in by the Police Department. The ultimate disposition of the property is governed by law.

Property is released Monday through Friday, 9:00 to 11:00 a.m., or by appointment, with the exception of holidays.
