Parade: : 11am, Highland Avenue from Park Way to Piedmont Park
Picnic: 12-3pm, Piedmont Park
Community members are invited to the City of Piedmont’s annual Independence Day celebration on Tuesday, July 4th.
Parade
Now in its 56th year, the Independence Day parade will begin at 11am, running eight blocks along Highland Avenue from Park Way to Piedmont Park. One of Piedmont’s oldest and most beloved traditions, the parade features floats from neighborhoods and community organizations, a rich array of antique and classic cars, and several bagpipe bands in keeping with Piedmont’s Scottish traditions. This year’s theme is “Paint the Town Red, White, and Blue.”
Picnic
Following the parade, festivities will continue in Piedmont Park with a community picnic and music by Big Bang Beat from 12-3pm. A new water bottle filling station and waste sorting bins, being installed by Public Works in advance of the event, add a sustainable dimension to this year’s festivities.
Pancake Breakfast
Beforehand, fuel up at an all-you-can eat pancake breakfast from 8-10am at Veterans Hall, hosted by the Piedmont Community Service Crew, with sausages provided by Piedmont Grocery and fresh fruit courtesy of Village Market. The breakfast is $15 for those 15 and up, $10 for youth ages 3-14, and free for children under 3. Tickets are available at the door or can be purchased in advance online.
Please be considerate of public spaces
The City asks community members to be considerate one another and of public spaces in advance of and during the celebrations:
- Do not place chairs at bus stops
- Do not block access from the street to the sidewalk with chairs
- Use blankets rather than tarps for picnics in the park, as tarps damage the grass
Thank you for helping keep this event safe and accessible for everyone.
Block Party applications due June 28
Neighborhoods planning an Independence Day block party must complete the online 4th of July street closure application:
- Applications are due by 5pm on Wednesday, June 28th
- The City will notify applicants if their permit has been approved by Friday, June 30th
Public Works will deliver barricades to streets with approved closures on Monday, July 3rd.
