Piedmont Seniors

Founded in 1996 and sponsored by the Recreation Department, Piedmont Seniors is always seeking new members to socialize, meet for fun, and build friendships.

The group meets on a monthly basis, usually on the fourth Wednesday of each month, from 10:00 am –12:00 pm, at the Piedmont Community Hall, located at 711 Highland Avenue in Piedmont Park.

Meetings typically begin with refreshments and include guest speakers, presentations, and/or special events, and sometimes followed by a complimentary movie or informal games.

The Piedmont Seniors also go on monthly excursions to locations of interest throughout the Bay Area and beyond. Previous excursions have included visits to local museums, historic homes, live theater, ballet, and picturesque towns.

All ages are welcome and do not need to be Piedmont residents to join. For further information and to request a current newsletter, email Janet Epstein.

Juniors Helping Seniors

PRD is looking for teen volunteers (Ages 16+) to teach technology to seniors one Wednesday each month. Have spent half an hour working hands on with the Piedmont seniors answering questions about their phones, apps, tablets, or computers. This rewarding experience aligns with the PHS lunch break and is conveniently situated within walking distance of PHS. If you are interested, please reach out to Recreation Supervisor, Eva Phalen.

Mindfulness Meditation with Mark Herrick

Meditation provides a sense of calm, peace, and balance that benefits emotional well-being and overall health. If stress has you feeling anxious, tense, and worried, consider trying meditation. Spending a few minutes meditating restores calm and inner peace, and is simple, inexpensive, and doesn't require any special equipment. Meditation is to your mind what exercise is to your body, building 4 mental muscles: Concentration, Clarity, Friendliness, and Equanimity.

We will introduce five kinds of meditation in a safe and supportive environment, so each participant can become comfortable meditating at home.

Wednesdays from 9:00–10:00 am | 801 Magnolia Avenue (Main Hall)

Pickin' with Rick: Second Tuesdays

Who knew? Rick Schiller, pickleball enthusiast and longtime Piedmont resident, plays fingerstyle guitar!

Rick would like to share his relaxing style with you and discuss the music along the way in his naturally witty, sardonic, and entertaining manner. Rick plays guitar professionally for years and though his dream of becoming the next Guitar God didn't exactly pan out, after a long hiatus away from the instrument, Rick started to play again, and developed a solo fingerpickin' style.

You are invited to join Rick for an evening of music and appreciation, and heck, it's FREE! Please feel free to BYOB (alcohol OK!) and snacks to enjoy while you listen.
