Poll Workers Needed for the November 8, 2022 Election

Published October 6, 2022

Help support a fair, safe election this November by signing up to be an Alameda County poll worker. As a poll worker, you’d play a critical role in making voting accessible to all community members – and get paid to do it.

What Poll Workers Do

Poll workers are paid volunteers from local communities who perform tasks like:

  • Setting up and closing a polling place
  • Helping voters understand their rights
  • Protecting ballots and voting equipment

The Alameda County Registrar of Voters provides training for poll workers. Training time is paid, as is time served as a poll worker.

Workers are needed throughout Alameda County on Saturday, November 5th, Sunday, November 6th, Monday, November 7th, and Tuesday November 8th – Election Day.

Sign up online to volunteer. The application is simple and takes just a few minutes to complete.

Qualifications to be a Poll Worker

No special skills are required to be a poll worker. You are eligible if you are:

  • A registered voter in the state of California
  • A legal permanent resident or green card holder
  • An eligible high school student

Bilingual poll workers are especially needed. In Alameda County, assistance is provided to voters in Burmese, Chinese, Hindi, Khmer, Korean, Laotian, Mien, Mongolian, Punjabi, Spanish, Tagalog, Telugu, and Vietnamese. If you are fluent in any of these languages, please consider volunteering.

For more information about volunteering as a poll worker, call the Alameda County Registrar of Voters at (510) 272-6973.
